CPRR 63, Leviathan, at Train Fest 2011 |
Description: |
We're looking at the engineer's side of Central Pacific #63, called Leviathan. This engine was a big hit at the 2011 Train Fest. She was surely one of the most beautiful displays there. I don't have any other information as to builder, date of construction, etc., but I was glad to see an engine like this. ADDITIONAL NOTE: thanks to John Teeter, who provided excellent supplemental material regarding this engine. |

Title: |
CPRR 63, Leviathan, looking eastward |
Description: |
CPRR 63, called Leviathan, faces east towards Rock Island, IL during Train Fest 2011. This view is angled to show the front of the engine, with the ornate headlight and bracket, brass dome, whistle, bell, and so forth. A beautiful engine. Many engines like this (thousands?) were built, but only a few survive, and they'll always remind us of railroading's early days. Thanks to everyone who brought this engine to the Quad Cities that we might enjoy these memories. |
