Closer view of pier and bridge steelwork  Contributor's Pick!       
The concrete pier seems very substantial for this bridge. The girders appear to be quite deep--does anyone have a guess as to the Cooper E-rating? Photos in various media show 2-8-2's in steam days, and multi-unit lashups of four-axle diesels (lots of GP40's, e.g.) in and around Eldon, for example (Eldon is a few miles to the east of this photo).

Kevin K General East of Versailles, the loading is two consolidation engines with 40,000 pounds on each pair of drivers, and 4,000 pounds trainload per linear foot. West of Versailles, the loading is 44,000 and 4,800 respectively. 11/11/2014 7:24:17 PM
Kevin K General Every bridge built from the Gasconade River to Versaillies was by the Missouri Valley Bridge and Iron Works Co. / A. J. Tullock and was built in accordance with the St. L. & S. F. specifications og 1899. (40,000 lbs each pair of drivers, 4,000 lbs per ft.) 11/11/2014 7:44:16 PM
